Last updated 22 October 2026. This page covers the Lantern Hollow website, the game at /play/ and the Lantern Hollow app.
In short: you can play without an account and nothing leaves your device except what ads need. If you sign in, we keep your game save and your leaderboard row so you can play on any device. You can delete both at any time from Settings in the game.
What stays on your device
Your progress is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. It never leaves the device unless you sign in.
If you sign in
- Your account (Google sign-in or email and password) is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We see your name, email address and profile picture from it.
- Your game save is stored in Google Firebase Firestore so it loads on any device you sign in on. Only you can read or change it.
- Your leaderboard row shows the player name and avatar you chose in the game, your continent, how many critters you have caught, your New Moon title and your Learn progress. Anyone playing can see the leaderboard. Your email address is never shown.
Alerts
If you switch on alerts, your browser gives us a push address for your device, which we keep with the times your alerts are due. It does not include your name or email. Switching alerts off removes it.
Ads
The website and game show ads from Google AdSense, including optional ads you can watch for rewards. Google may use cookies or similar technology to show and measure ads. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and change your ad settings at adssettings.google.com.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your information.
- We don't take payments, and there is nothing to buy with real money.
- We don't ask for your location, contacts, camera or microphone.
Deleting your account
In the game, open Settings, find Account save, tap Delete my account, then Delete for good. This deletes your account, your game save and your leaderboard row straight away. The progress on your device stays, and you can clear it by clearing this site's data in your browser or uninstalling the app.
If you can't sign in, email us from the address on your account and we will delete it for you within 30 days.
Children
Lantern Hollow is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we will delete it.
